Hodgson To Harness England Egos With Sports Psychologist - Will It Help?

England manager Roy Hodgson announced the arrival of Dr Steve Peters last week as the national team's sports psychologist, ahead of this year's World Cup in Brazil.

Of course, this is nothing new in football as many times have employed a psychologist to help deal with the rigours that a life play professional football must surely bring. In fact, Hodgson and England are little slow on the uptake; most probably because a lot of the old English guard consider introducing a psychologist to be 'soft' and 'unnecessary'.

Hodgson clearly disagrees but it remains unclear how exactly Dr Steve Peters will be utilised in the England set up. Will Roy (of the Rovers) ask him to help the English players overcome their mental break downs whenever it comes to taking part in a penalty shoot out? Or perhaps Hodgson will choose to use Dr Peters' skill of brainwashing football players into thinking that they are actually far better than they really think they are.

Those are two possibilities but the most likely answer to the question is that Hodgson is hoping that Dr Peters can assist him in trying to control incredible amount of over inflated egos that are currently present in the England team ahead of a major tournament.

Sizable egos can be a problem in international teams (just ask the Dutch) and Hodgson knows it is not a straightforward task of trying to settle a bunch of overpaid prima donnas. With Dr Peters help, however, an expert in the field, Hodgson has a far better chance in trying to obtain the all important team chemistry.
