Liverpool ARE Title Contenders - 3 Reasons Why The Reds Can Win The Premier League

Liverpool's 3-0 away at Southampton this afternoon sees them jump into second place, just four points behind Chelsea at the top. I firmly believe that the Reds are title contenders and here are three reasons as to why.

1) Goals

Liverpool are the top scorers in the Premier League this season having scored 73 league goals, and if it wasn't for their shoddy defence at times this season they would surely be enjoying top spot. The way they flood forward when on the ball is brilliant to watch and with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge leading the line then they are always going to have a chance. The pair have notched 42 league goals this term.

2) Strength

The strength of the squad is staggering. Simon Mignolet is a top class keeper and their defensive options are high, though they are currently failing to play to their best. The midfield is packed with quality such as Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho, while I have already mentioned the strikers.

There is a depth to the Liverpool squad that stands them in good stead.

3) Run of games

Up next for Liverpool is Manchester United, which could go either way. However, after that the Reds host Sunderland and then West Ham and Norwich in April before finishing with Crystal Palace and Newcastle. They still have to play Manchester City and Chelsea, though both games are at Anfield.

If you think the Liverpool squad has strength in depth, then I have to seriously question your understanding of the definition of strength. Liverpool has the weakest squad out of the top five teams, with any injury to Suarez, sturridge right now and we are done for as far as any title challenge goes, if that happens we would be struggling to even hold onto 4th.
