New Scotland Strip Sparks Mixed Reviews, And Rightly So

With the eagerly awaited draw for the 2016 Euro Qualifiers finalised in France last week, some of world’s largest football kit manufacturers have been busy ‘fashioning’ new home and away strips for the countries involved ahead of the first qualifiers to take place in September this year.

The launch on Wednesday of the new Adidas away strip for the ‘Tartan Army’ was met with mixed reviews, as several Premier league players modelled what can only be described in football terms rather than fashion, as a rhubarb and custard sweet, or a giant pack of Refreshers with arms and legs.  The kit is emblazoned with yellow, pink stripes.

Did Adidas have an off day?

The players put on a brave face for the watching media with midfielder Scott Brown admitting “It will certainly make us stand out from the crowd”.

The Scottish FA remain upbeat and positive describing it as “a fun, modern interpretation of one of Scotland’s most iconic jerseys”

Fashion guru and The Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman said "Here we have one of those rare occasions, unknown since the glory days of Beckham, when a fashion moment in football will get more approval from the fashion world than, I strongly suspect, the football one."

Scotland were handed the most difficult qualifying group they could have possibly wished for, battling it out against the likes of Germany, Poland and the Republic of Ireland for a place at Euro 2016 in France.
