Rodgers Losing Patience With Agger, But Does The Centre-Back Deserve The Boot?

According to reports in the Express, Liverpool centre-half Daniel Agger is now in a fight to save his career at the Merseyside club. On the back of the news I thought that I would dig a little deeper into his performances and look at the stats to see whether or not Brendan Rodgers is right to have a moan, if indeed the reports ring true.

First of all I watched the Liverpool vs Swansea game and I know how he feels regarding the Dane's performances.

Liverpool's defence has been their downfall this season in the Premier League - they are the top scorers in the division with 70 goals but they have also conceded 35 in the process - a higher amount than Hull, Southampton and even West Ham.

Agger has played 13 games in the league this season and has been pretty solid in terms of his defensive duties. He averages seven defensive actions per game, which includes 74 clearances, 12 interceptions and three blocks, and he has won 72% of his headers.

His positioning isn't as strong as it used to be and he is certainly not the quickest centre-back in the league, but for me he is a strong Premier League defender and there are others who deserve to be criticised.

Martin Skrtel for example. I honestly think that is an overhyped player, who because he able to make last ditch challenges and throw his body into things is seen as untouchable by some.

I think that he has his flaws, but he deserves more praise than he is getting currently.
