Manchester United To Offer Midfielder £60,000-Per-Week - Does He Deserve A New Deal?

In a week that has seen Wayne Rooney take some stick for his mega-money deal at Old Trafford, it now seems that there is another first team player in line to sign a new deal. Darren Fletcher has endured a tough 18-months at the club having missed out through injury, but now he is back and playing well in the middle of the pitch, Goal are reporting that he will be offered around £60,000-per-week - a similar figure to what he is currently on.

But should David Moyes be looking to keep him at the club?

The Scotland international has made just six appearances this season, three of which came as a substitute, but he has impressed thoroughly whenever he has taken to the pitch.

He has always been a player to come in for the big games and that is a result of the composure he holds on the ball.

Fletcher injects confidence into the United side and can control the game with his range of passing - he has completed 89% of his overall passes this season so far.

He has also made three clearances, seven interceptions and one solid tackles, and you would have thought that his statistics will only improve as the season continues.

For me Fletcher deserves a new deal, so I am glad it looks like he's getting one.

I see no reason to offer him a new contract. Fletcher is a good lad and has had a terrible time over the last 3 years, but we need to start looking at the future. Fletcher has one year still left on his contract and we should wait until nearer the end of that deal before deciding anything. If Fletcher is not getting enough games then he should also have the freedom to leave and find a new club. We need to be looking at signing 2 new central midfielder's this summer, and we already have Fellaini, Carrick and Cleverley, so Fletcher might not get a lot of time next season.

    Get shut he's crap.

A waste of money for the slowest player in the premier league
