THREE Reasons Why Arsenal Should Forget About Signing £37m Playmaker

With The Guardian suggesting that Arsenal are in talks with Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler, who has a buy-out clause of around £37m according to the same reports, it got me thinking. Do the Gunners need the youngster, or is it a case of panic buying? I am leaning towards the latter. Here are three reasons why I think Arsenal should forget about signing the Germany international.

    1) places

Right now Arsenal are blessed with a wealth of attacking options. Mesut Ozil is the obvious name having signed in the summer, but he has the likes of Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain around him. He also has Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski in the squad, though it's unlikely the former won't be playing again this season due to injury.

Draxler can play wide but he's most suited to the central role behind the striker, where Ozil plays. I fear that signing the young German could have a negative effect on those already at the club.

    2) injury

For such a young player, Draxler has certainly suffered with a lot of injuries. Arsenal are already plagued with injury-prone players - we have see Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Artet, Podolski, Walcott and Bendtner all injured this season in the final two-thirds of the pitch.

    3) priorities

Similar to my first point, but slightly angled towards the lack of firepower that the Gunners currently have. Olivier Giroud has put in some marvellous performances this season but having played over 30 games this season already, he's understandably tired. Or at least looks tired.

I would say rather than splashing out on a playmaker, why not go all in for a big name striker to take some of the pressure off Giroud's back.

    Gooners, do you agree?

Your own argument is flawed. If. as you suggest, Draxler adds nothing new and just backs up existing skills in the squad, then how could that be construed as a panic buy? Perhaps, heaven forbid, Wenger sees something in him that you don't or can't see.

With the injury list fluctuating as much as it does I think Draxler would be great as he can play in all attacking positions, I certainly see a resemblance to a young Thierry Henry u think Wenger does too, plus he doesn't want to replace giroud, simple that's why he hasn't bought a player like Diego Costa or Cavani. Draxler is the right age and has considerable talent for him to make a huge impact in the seasons to come, plus don't forget this summer transfer window, im sure if we don't win the league Wenger will switch focus to a forward.

of course he will add to the team.all the pace in midfield are out injured apart from the ox and 30 mins cameo rosicky.wenger turned rvp and henry from attackers to world class srtikers so why not again.just good that he can play in both positions just in case we need up front.just think when ramsey/walcott/jack r back.what a team we will be...ps i do think we need a good dm because arteta dont cut that postion and flam is good but need back up

We are so close to winning the premeirship. Our Achilles heel is a dedicated striker. We rely on goals from our midfield If something takes out Giroud then we finish 3rd or 4th. Drax is injured now for about a month and also .may not be available until the summer. Take the option to buy him later but get a top notch striker in now. Please....

Wenger may see something in Draxler that others don't see. But when we are obviously desperate for another striker he seems to be after (another) brilliant young midfielder - whom he hopes to convert. He has been unsuccessful (even ruinous) with most of his conversions (Reyes, Wiltord, Arshavin, Eboue, Vela ....). I just pray he doesn't end up with nobody !!

Yeah, our needs. Its baffling that we get this far into the window without a firm idea of whos gonna come until 11 hours to closing after a phone from medical staff that player A, B or C aint gionna make it until at the end of April. As of not having a need for Draxler, I think the above is written by a hack who would do well to keep his day job. Wenger is a fine manager except that he has a tendency to fuck up properly in between acquisition and grooming a brilliant youngster.
Here we are crying out for a striker when we ignored Benteke, Dembe Ba and Lukaku before they were taken by others.were we not seeing them? This makesa want to shout loud one name DAVID DEIN.
