Why Chelsea Should Make Room In The Team For Freebie Midfielder

With over 600 appearances for some of the most prestigious clubs in Europe - including Real Madrid and current side Inter, Esteban Cambiasso has established himself as one of the most efficient defensive midfielders on the big stage.

Now though, at 33 years of age, the 52-time Argentina international is running down his contract and could be a free agent in the summer, leading to speculation - reported by the Mirror, at least - with a move to the Premier League. Having spent my childhood idolising the bald midfielder, I would suggest that Chelsea - who are one of the teams suggested, should make room in their midriff for him.

He has played in every game so far this season in Inter's Serie A run and has been brilliant throughout. As well as scoring four goals, something that he has not made his name doing, he has made 31 key passes - the most at the club this term.

He isn't the most energetic player but he is always positioned well positioned and on hand to break up opponent attacks.

He has found himself in trouble because of his over-zealous tackling in the past but that has calmed itself with age, and his game has matured nicely.

For me, he would be much more of an asset to Chelsea than Michael Essien, who has seemed to lose his legs a bit.

Cambiasso's range of passing and the mettle he carries in his game would strengthen Chelsea no end, in my opinion, and if it means getting rid of someone in January then so be it.
