Why Manchester United Could Regret Missing Out On Porto Midfielder

Manchester United have a couple of more days to strengthen their midfield, and in my eyes to steer their title challenge back on track. They snapped up Juan Mata in a deal that smashed their transfer record, but I still think they need another head in the middle of the pitch. There are a few possible candidates, but there one man that stands out for me, and he is out of contract in the summer.

The player I point towards is Brazilian midfielder Fernando, who is currently at Porto. The reason why I nominate him is because he holds everything that United need, and much more.

He is a tall, powerful player who holds such a domineering presence in the middle of the field that he and Fellaini could act as the enforcers, while Michael Carrick sprays the passes around the pitch.

Just in front, or on the wing, Juan Mata can inject the creativity. And that's without mentioning Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley or Darren Fletcher.

Fernando is an aggressive player who likes to get in the face of opponents and make life difficult for them, while he is also tactically astute.

United have been linked with the 26-year-old by the Mirror, who say that a deal could be done before the deadline, but if it doesn't I can't help but feel that David Moyes, and Manchester United, will regret not securing his signature.
