Is Joleon Lescott Good Enough To Get A new Contract At Manchester City?

Joleon Lescott is apparently on the hunt for a new Manchester City contract, but after being overlooked for almost the entirety of last season, we have take a look at the statistics to see if the England defender deserves an extension or Manuel Pellegrini should just let him leave the club.

City's title winning season was formed upon Vincent Kompany and Lescott in the heart of the defence, but when Roberto Mancini signed Matija Nastasic everything changed. The 20-year-old went straight into the team and left Lescott warming the bench.

Lescott managed 26 games last term, although just 10 full 90 minutes, and scored a single goal. His 62% duel success was only beaten by Joe Hart, which shows just how efficient the former Everton defender is, as does the 90% pass completion that he racked up.

He made an average of seven defensive actions per game, but did make three errors, one of which led to a goal.

This season the 31-year-old has played every minute of City's campaign, winning 4/5 tackles and 6/8 headed duels. He, again, has made an average of seven defensive actions per game and completed 89% of his passes.

With his deal running out at the end of the season, there is no doubt in my mind that Lescott deserves a new deal. His bullish style of play compliments his panache on the ball, and the experience that he also offers is exactly what City need in these times.

    It's a yes from me.
