3 Players Tottenham Need To Offload

For me, Andre Villas-Boas did the best business in the Premier League during the summer, despite letting Gareth Bale secure his switch to Real Madrid. On the whole, Tottenham now look like a far stronger outfit which I consider good enough for a top four spot, but as hard as the Portuguese coach tried to rid his side of deadwood, I still think there is room for more departures. Here are three players I think Spurs should offload.

    1) Emmanuel Adebayor

It's common knowledge that Villas-Boas wants rid of the Togolese forward after a questionable season last time out. The arrival of Roberto Soldado has further pushed Adebayor's future into doubt and it's unlikely that he will feature again for the north London side.

    2) Jermain Defoe

This is more from the point of the striker himself, as I am a big fan. It would frustrate me if Defoe's career plummets as a result of Soldado's signing so I think Spurs should release him from his shackles. Saying that, there are few strikers who I would rather have coming off the bench than Defoe, so unless another face comes in he won't be going anywhere, I would have thought.

    3) Gylfi Sigurdsson

Despite his brace on Saturday against Norwich, I still believe that the Iceland international is the weak link in the Spurs midfield. They are overflowing with talent in the middle, and it comes down to two players, in my mind, who are the most droppable - Sigurdsson and Lewis Holtby, and I think the latter has a bit more about him than the former.

What do you reckon Spurs fans? Don't shoot me, I am more than happy to hear you opinions.

Would love to know what so many fans have against Siggy. Before his 2 goals at the weekend he was clattering them off the post for a few weeks. He is always involved in chances, setting them up etc. I love and support all our players (except Ade, but the doors always open if players want to turn things around), but there are a few who have started slow and have yet to prove they deserve (or have had an opportunity to) a slot in the team despite any price tags.

I would honestly say that I completely agree with the article the 3 above players are very good and would get into any bottom half of the tables starting line ups but for us these 3 are usually the ones I moan about when they are on the field.

Its a huge step up though as last year I was moaning about these 3 as well as Gallas, Hudd, Dempsey, Parker and Livermore and thank god they are all gone

I agree with Ade. His best season was when he was trying to be sold whilst on loan. Deja vu. With you on Defoe. One of the best natural finishers just lacks the guile and awareness to be world class. We may need an impact player if injury or fatigue affects Soldado though

The midfield is a conundrum. Yes we have a plethora of talent with new faces still to fit in. Lets not be too hasty to start writing such articles about offloading players now. Only sell when you have the right replacements. Remember a certain Mr Bale.

In Levy I trust. With Baldini I'm smug. AVB gives me hope. COYS

we must keep Sigurdsson and Lewis Holtby they will be great it time and not long for Gylfi Sigurdsson. as for Jermain Defoe we should sell him and kept Dempsey, as for Emmanuel Adebayor can be great but, as we need strikers we must keep both for now shame we did not bye fred

I would definitely hold on to Holtby, I see him as our future. With slight injuries he has picked up, plus internationals keeping him out he hasn't had a really good regular run out apart from the U21's where he recently scored a hat-trick.
I have always found him to give110% on the pitch, and he could turn out to be another Modric given time and opportunity. COYS !!!!!!

Stupid post: only Ade is vulnerable and let's see how he goes once he is fit.
It then he fails to do more than wander out onto the wing then: fair enough!!

Defoe? yes and what do we do if Soldado is injured?

Siggy? Playing his best football since emerging from Bale's shaow

Another stupid post indeed. Glyfi gives us goals. Decent at set plays. And can deliver the ball through the eye of a needle. Play him ahead of Chadli every time. We need Defoe and Ade. We have a lot of silly Europa league games all over Europe. Defoe should start those with Ade on the bench. League cup games too. Soldado can't play 50 plus games a season you clown.

What a crock of shite this article is. Why would anyone get rid of Siggi and Defoe? Siggi coming on-song now and Defoe is a perfect back-up / impact sub. Sell Ade if only to get him off the wage bill, but I think he should be back-up to Soldado.
Just another single-brain-cell modern 'fan' who thinks a team that can barely scrape into the top 4 should have a 20man squad made up of £20m+ players and ditch anyone who's been there 6 months without becoming a superstar.
The current squad is the best in a long long time.
Go back to playing Fifa and buy/sell who you want you dick.

I agree about Ade (unless he picks his a** up and starts turning in consistent performances. I asked my two nephews (season ticket holders at Spurs) and my brother about who they would let go between Siggy and Holtby. Everyone chose Holtby who hasn't yet seemed to have settled down (although hasn't played a huge number of games). Nobody wanted to get rid of either, but would have chosen Holtby if pushed for decision.

Completely disagree about Defoe and Sigurdson as well as your view on Holtby being our second most disposable midfielder.

Releasing Defoe wouldn't be for his own good as you claim. He has been our second choice striker for three seasons now and was perma injured the one before and he still gets into the England squad when fit. It's not like selling him to a mid table club would improve his England chances anyway, as there is a clear top 6 bias in the squad selection. You just have to look at when an injured Carrol was being called up whilst Holt, Lambert and Hooper were all banging them in respectively, or look how Wellbeck always got called up. The club you're playing for is more important than form when international squads get announced.

As for Siggy I don't like him as a central or attacking midfielder and often find him too slow for our general play out on the wing, but he can cross and is always one of the first players to hit a rebound as well as being 24 and counting as a homegrown player.

As for Holtby, he's a natural attacking midfielder. I was delighted with Eriksen's debut and he does seem to be the solution for the creative problems suffered at the start of the season, but the season is long and in the modern game you need two players for each position. Siggy and Chadli competing for left wing while Holtby and Eriksen compete for AM seems fine to me. Also something everyone forgets about Holtby last season is that he was brought in earlier than wanted due to Sandro's injury. He was essentially used to plug gaps in our squad playing everywhere from attacking mid, defensive mid and out wide over the course of half a season and then due to internationals missed the entire pre season again. He's 22 with CL experience and caps for the Germany national team which probably has the most competitive midfield in the game for call ups.

Adebayor agree - other two not. We need as many quality players as we can to compete on all fronts. Why not get rid of Obika and Dawkins instead - they will never get in the team
