3 Centre-Backs Tottenham Should Look To Sign In January

Tottenham had one of the finest transfer window of the summer, in my eyes. Although they lost Gareth Bale to the money and Champions League status of Real Madrid, they tightened up the remainder of their squad and added a wave of talent over the top. One of those signings was Vlad Chiriches, a Romanian centre-back who is hoping to plug Spurs' dodgy defence. But even with the 23-year-old, the defence doesn't look the sturdiest, so here are three players who I believe would be decent recruits in January.

    1) Joel Matip - Schalke

The 22-year-old has proved just what a talent he is over they years and would also offer a huge flexibility to Andre Villas-Boas' squad. Not only is he a natural centre-back but Matip is more than comfortable if deployed in an anchorman role, although Spurs aren't exactly lacking in the midfield department.

    2) Andrea Costa - Sampdoria

A lesser known player now in the shape of Serie A centre-half Andrea Costa. The 27-year-old would offer an experienced head at the back and would be the lynchpin which allowed Jan Vertonghen or Younes Kaboul to plough up the field. Costa has averaged 11 defensive actions per game so far this season in his two games and won 67% of his duels.

    3) Dedryck Boyata - Manchester City

Don't shoot me Spurs fans. Being a fan of the lower leagues and a regular to reserve games across the country, I can tell you that the 22-year-old is one heck of a player. His domineering presence allows him to patrol the backline with maximum efficiency, but he's also capable with the ball at his feet.

Last season the Belgium international spent time at FC Twente, but now is the make or break time for the 22-year-old, and slotting him in beside his compatriot Vertonghen wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Why in the world do they need another centre back? What is the point of this article?
They have 4 center backs now; Verthongen, Kaboul, Dawson and Chiriches! You want to add a fifth that never play?

Id like another CB because Dawson is pony. Kaboul is unfit but will be good and this new fella may turn out to be a donkey. Never heard of the 3 mentioned though . ill take Kompany.

    Matip - yes
    Costa - no
    Boyata - no

I can't see AVB going for another though unless Daws picks up an injury or Kaboul falls back onto the medic table!!

    Loan bid of Caulker? Lol
