Arsenal Miss Out On Midfield Target - Here's What You Could Have Won

Arsenal have lost another race, this time the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo after the Brazilian opted for a move to Wolfsburg. But what exactly are the Gunners missing out on?

Last season Gustavo managed 22 league appearances for the Bavarians as they tore Europe apart. However, with the wealth of talent that Bayern have in the middle of the pitch he found himself falling down the pecking order.

Cue the arrival of Pep Guardiola and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze, as well as Barcelona man Thiago Alcantara and Gustavo was ready to find pastures new.

In his 22 games, Gustavo completed 93% of passes, an incredible feat I think you'd agree. The way he disables opponent attacks before rolling a simple ball to his colleague is a trait not rewarded with the recognition it perhaps should, and his duel percentage is also quite impressive.

He was successful in 57% of his battles, hit the target with 60% of his shots and averaged two defensive actions per game.

Gustavo would have worked beautifully in the Arsenal midfield. His technical brilliance would have dovetailed with Jack Wilshere's bite, Mikel Arteta's awareness and Santi Cazorla's creativity.

But it's all good and well discussing what you could have had, eh Gooners?
