5 things you need to know about the new Barcelona manager (video)

Today sees the introduction of new Barcelona boss Gerardo 'Tata' Martino. Here at Football Friends have done a little bit of digging on the Argentine's background to give our readers a brief yet informative profile of the man stepping into Tito Vilanova's shoes. Here are 5 things you need to know about the 50-year-old.

    1) Martino played most of his career in his homeland with Newell's Old Boys. He made almost 500 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals, and was voted as their best ever player in a poll back in 2003.

    2) Martino is a highly decorative individual, having won 4 Paraguayan Primiera Division titles, 3 Argentine Primiera titles and the accolade of South American Coach of the Year whilst in charge of the Paraguay national side.

    3) Martino is the first Argentine coach at the helm at Camp Nou since 1983, and the first foreign coach since Frank Rijkaard, who left the club in 2008.

    4) This will be the first time that Martino has managed a European club in his career.

    5) In a rare fashion in modern day football, Martino refuses to have an agent and discusses on behalf of himself.
