3 reasons why Romelu Lukaku may be ready to lead the Chelsea attack next season

Chelsea currently boast one of the strongest attacking units in European football, something Jose Mourinho will be excited to work with. The likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Victor Moses and Frank Lampard will all complete for an attacking midfield role, but it is the centre forward role which we are concentrating on. Romelu Lukaku is back and raring to go, but we ask is the Belgian ready to lead the Blues? Here are 3 reason we think yes.

    1) Variety is the key

Lukaku offers something that neither Demba Ba or Fernando Torres do. Pace, power and a directness which defenders can't handle. Lukaku has proved that he is just as comfortable in the air as he is with the ball at his feet, and his age is a contributor to the fact that holds no fear what so ever.

    2) Goal-gobbler

Lukaku can now consider himself a proven Premier League striker. His season at West Brom last term was beyond successful as he smashed 17 league goals for the Baggies. Demba Ba's return for the Stamford Bridge outfit was woeful (2) and Torres' nothing spectacular (8), so unless Mourinho gets his mitts on someone like Wayne Rooney in the coming weeks then Lukaku is likely to be in pole position.

    3) Drogba-esque

Lukaku has continually been likened to former Mourinho and Chelsea favourite Didier Drogba and has himself revealed the Ivorian as his idol. His stature, his unpredictability and his considerable goal return is something that the Special One will remind him of his former talisman - a reason why we may well see him as the focal point of the team.
