Summer signings - players that might move (Video)

In the third and final part of my transfer assessment, I focus on the players that are regularly being linked with moves to new clubs but haven't yet agreed to sign for their prospective admirers.

    Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United

    Wayne Rooney to Chelsea

Manchester United are definitely the club to focus on here as they are involved with both players; one that might join them and one that could be heading for the exit.

Cesc Fabregas has had a difficult time since returning to his boyhood club a few years ago, with sections of Barcelona fans singling him out for negative attention and criticising his effort at times. The former Arsenal captain cannot dislodge the midfield trio of Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta, neither can he find a regular space in the attacking third of the team. With the signing of Neymar it would appear that a unit comprising Messi, Pedro and the Brazilian will be the preference, which leaves him with limited options. Whilst Barcelona have rejected a £25m offer from David Moyes' club, the Scot has confirmed that they will continue their pursuit of the 26-year-old midfielder and have increased their second offer to £30m. We now wait in anticipation to see whether this will tempt the Spanish champions to reconsider, although the player himself has declared that he is happy to fight for a chance and doesn't want to leave.

Whilst Fabregas may or may not arrive in Manchester, Wayne Rooney has certainly made all the right noises about leaving the club. Frustrated at playing backup to Robin van Persie, could we be about to witness a sensational switch to Chelsea? Jose Mourinho has said that Rooney is their only transfer target this summer and that any player that has ambitions to play in next summer's World Cup will surely need to be playing regular first team football. Obviously this is a direct reference to the fact that Rooney is now regarded as second choice at Old Trafford and that potentially he could risk losing his space in Roy Hodgson's team if he doesn't feature enough.

My feeling is that neither move will go through, although it is more likely that Rooney could depart seeing as though he has handed in a transfer request. It would be a sensational transfer but not likely to come cheap, unless the rumours of a player swap deal are actually true...
