Three reasons Darren Bent and Newcastle could be a match made in heaven

Out of favour Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has been linked with Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side for a couple of weeks now and Newcastle hope they can complete the signing in the near future. Bent has struggled to find a place in the first team at Villa Park due to the form of Christian Benteke which meant he only made 16 appearances all season. So it would appear that now would be a good time for Darren Bent to move on and Newcastle could be the perfect destination for the striker.

    1) Newcastle seem to be on the lookout for a new striker because of an on-going dispute between them and star striker Papiss Cisse who has been refusing to wear the new club shirt which bears a pay day loan company which goes against his religious beliefs. It is still unclear whether Papiss Cisse will play for the Magpies next year and the potential signing of Darren Bent could make it an easier decision regarding Cisse’s future as he could help contribute to replace the goals Cisse brings to the side.

    2) Darren Bent has proved time and time again no matter what club he has been at be it Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham or Charlton that he has the ability to score goals at the highest level.  He has scored 53 goals in the Premiership over the last four seasons and those goals would be crucial to Newcastle who at times struggled to find the net last year. Bent is a clinical finisher and possesses a huge amount of natural ability and with a run in the Newcastle first team there is no reason why Bent would not be able to find his best form again.

    3) The third and final reason why I think Bent would be a great signing for Newcastle is the cost the potential transfer fee that has suggested has been just around the £5 million mark. That price in terms of strikers is an absolute bargain when you consider Bent’s track record and his age. Although it seems like he has been around forever Bent is only 29 years old and entering his prime of his career, he still has time to improve and joining up with Newcastle for the 2013-14 season could be the best way for Bent to do that.

Overall I think Bent is a very good striker and if he does move to Newcastle and secures a starting place I’m sure he will be able to prove his doubters wrong and show why he has scored as many goals as he has over his career. If Pardew can get his man it would be a very astute signing and Newcastle would certainly have more of an attacking threat next year.
