Manchester City midfielder agrees £4m to be at the club (video)

Manchester City have made £34m midfielder Fernandinho their first signing of the summer on Thursday evening and the Telegraph have revealed that the Brazilian has given up £4m in bonuses to push through a move to the Etihad. A pretty big sacrifice, you would think. However, the 28-year-old will be earning £120,000-a-week on a four-year deal after the soon-to-be manager Manuel Pellegrini blessed the deal.

The blue half of Manchester are still weeping into their beverages as United stripped back the Premier League title last season and sent Sir Alex Ferguson into retirement with a smile, but with an upheaval of staff on and off the pitch this time round City have a real chance of regaining the trophy.

Fernandinho, who spent eight years at Shakhtar Donetsk previously, was in search of a new challenge and viewed City as his perfect destination, so the thought of passing up the £4m in loyalty fees seems a no-brainer. Why have money if you're not happy, eh Fernando.

He said: “I got a reply from my previous club and they didn’t want to sell me at any price. I told them I had a dream to play in a higher league than the Ukrainian league. It was a battle over the last few months but thank God everything worked out well and I’m here to be part of this club.”
