Tottenham to offer cut-price deal for wantaway Ligue 1 star

Reports from today's Metro reveal that Spurs are hopeful of finally securing a deal for Morocco international Younes Belhanda when the summer transfer window opens.

The north London outfit went head-to-head with Turkish giants Fenerbahce for the services of the midfielder last year but his current side Montpellier repelled any sort of interest that came in for him. However, the 23-year-old has held a meeting with owner Louis Nicollin about his desire to leave France for bigger opportunities and the boss knows he has to let him go.

Nicollin said: "The door is open for Younes to find a bigger club. I don’t know where he’ll go yet but he wants to leave."

Belhanda has played for Montpellier since progressing through the youth set-up and has gone on to make nearly 150 appearances for the club, but Andre Villas-Boas is a huge fan of his versatility and is ready offer a cut-price £8m deal to see him in a Spurs shirt.

With the potential departure of Gareth Bale a real worry for the Portuguese coach, Belhanda would provide cover on both wings and in the middle. His natural ability to read the game has also seen him help out n defence and has played in the anchorman role also.

Belhanda was a huge part in Montpellier winning Ligue 1 for the first time in their history last season and has scored 10 league goals in 28 games this time round.
