Football to Watch in Summer 2013 (Video)

The end of May can be a deeply upsetting time for football fans across Europe and not just because their team has underperformed over the season. No, the reason is because there is no more football to watch for three months. Fear not, football fans. Despite there being no major tournament this summer there is still plenty of football to be watched across the world over the next three months. Let’s have a look at what we can watch whilst the European football season has its yearly hiatus.

    Brasileirao

The Brasileirao kicks off this weekend and as ever it is almost impossible to call. 11 of Luis Felipe Scolari’s Brazilian Confederations Cup squad will be involved, the last time that figure reached double figures was when the Selecao won the World Cup in 2002. The league currently houses star names such as Neymar, Ronaldinho, Luis Fabiano, Clarence Seedorf, Diego Forlan and many more. If you feel starved of football, follow the players in Brazil over the summer and you will not be disappointed.

    MLS

Unlike the Brasileirao, the American MLS has already kicked off but they have just reached double figures in terms of games. Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls currently lead the Eastern Conference and they will be looking to prove a point to new American ‘soccer’ team New York City F.C who join the league in 2015. FC Dallas lead the Western Conference as they look to win the trophy from the LA Galaxy who are the current holders.

    Confederations Cup

The 2013 Confederations Cup will be played in the second half of June, it is known as the prelude to the 2014 World Cup. The host nation Brazil will be in it alongside the winners of each continent’s tournaments and Euro 2012 runners up Italy who gain entry due to Spain winning both the World Cup and the European Championship. Spain, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Uruguay, Nigeria and even minnows Tahiti will all be going all out to win it. It will be a great taster for next years’ World Cup so be sure to tune in.

    European Under-21 Championships

On the 5th June, the European Under-21 Championships kick off with the finest talents in Europe being on show. Eight teams who have pre-qualified will want to show that they are the nation to watch in the future on the continent of Europe. Group A consists of hosts Israel, England, Italy and Norway whilst in Group B are Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Russia. It’s going to be a brilliant tournament with all the teams involved naming extremely strong squads.
