Liverpool set sights on Premier League left-back

With the on loan Spurs defender’s loan deal expiring as of the weekend just gone, Danny Rose is reportedly being lined up for Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers looks to build on his team’s solid season and look for the final ingredients to get back into the top 4.

Brendan Rodgers has failed to sign the left back in the last two transfer windows but would have to sell to buy and with Andy Carroll seeming to pine for a permanent deal at West Ham, although Liverpool’s asking price for the big centre forward may be the potential stumbling block on that transfer and Reina has been constantly linked with Barcelona as Valdes is set to move on and will need replacing. Others players reportedly that will be sold before any acquisitions are brought in include Stewart Downing, who I think has been decent in the latter half of the season and Jose Enrique will be a part of the mini-exodus at Liverpool.

On the actual transfer of Rose, who will probably want to be retained by Tottenham as Assou-Ekotto looks like he will be on his way out and Jan Vertonghen has filled in at left-back to cover, but is not his best position and Villas-Boas recognises that, so Rose, who has had a stellar first season as a starter for a team would be an ideal replacement if Tottenham need one. The thing is; do Liverpool need a left-back? I do not think that is what they need to push on for next season, if the Suarez situation doesn’t resolve they will need a world class striker to replicate the goals he has scored this season and will certainly need a centre-back to replace the retiring Jamie Carragher and Skrtel has had a so-so season. Let’s hope this doesn’t upset any sort of momentum that  Rodgers has built this season going into the next campaign.
