What Next for Everton Football Club?

We all know what’s happened in football this week regarding the baton of tenure at Manchester United finally being passed on to totally deserving candidate, David Moyes, but it’s the club he’s leaving after eleven years, the third longest reigning manager in the Premier League at the moment, but when the curtain falls on his time at Goodison, who will be the man to take over?

Speculation and realisation of Moyes move to Old Trafford came just as quickly as the news of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement on late Tuesday evening. Moyes was quickly installed front runner for the job and with him being handpicked by Ferguson especially, there simply was no question of who will be in the famous dugout at Old Trafford next season. As there was with the Man United position, speculation has been rife about who will take over at Everton on the 1^st July, Neil Lennon and Roberto Martinez have been front runners from the get go, but the outsiders like Malky Mackay and even Phillip Neville have been mentioned. Any of those men can step up I feel, but won’t be able to fill the shoes of David Moyes, in many senses the Everton job is a harder job to take than the Manchester United one, the transfer budget isn’t as vast as it is at United, nor is the stadium, trading Goodison for one of the best stadiums in the world must greatly excite Moyes. One thing they do share is expectation, the man who steps into Moyes’ shoes will have to deal with the expectant Evertonians, the squad underwhelming yet brilliant are Moyes’ team also, he built that team on close knitted togetherness, so to win them over as well as the fans will be two giant hurdles. Also something Moyes has done constantly is keep up with his competitors, he’s always kept up and moved the team on in senses of evolving, whether the new man is up to that challenge, due course will tell.

Whether or not Everton are on course to be a club who have a revolving door of players and managers now, time will tell, but I have a suspicion the man who takes over in the summer, won’t be as successful as his predecessor. Moyes at Manchester United will be a success and although the game is losing one of its most colourful, tremendous characters, we’ll be gaining the real David Moyes. Football moves on as this week, the red half of Manchester and the blue half of Liverpool are finding out, Man United have made their move for the future, but what is next for Everton football club?
