Roberto Martinez the right man to replace David Moyes at Everton

In the aftermath of the news of Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, and subsequent announcement that David Moyes will take over, the spotlight now turns to Everton as they search for a new manager.

It is a hard task considering the fantastic job Moyes has done over the past decade for the Merseyside club and Everton's hierarchy will have to choose carefully when deciding who is the man for the job.

For me, though, there is an obvious answer and it is Wigan's Roberton Martinez. With their loss to Swansea earlier this week things are looking bleak for Wigan, more so than normal for this time of the season, and this could very well be the time when Martinez cannot perform his magic and they are relegated.

Should that be the case than there is no doubt in my mind that Martinez will be appointed as the new manager of Everton. Like Moyes, he knows how to operate with a shoe string budget and the Spaniard's work ethic and style has been lauded during his time at Swansea and Wigan.

His remarkable feat of steering Wigan to the FA Cup final only bolsters an already impressive C.V. There are other contenders, Mick McCarthy springs to mind, but Martinez is the most appealing option to succeed Moyes at Everton.
