Esteban Cambiasso: an underrated great (Video)

Whilst most eyes tonight will be on Tottenham's man of the moment Gareth Bale, the Europa League tie between Spurs and Inter gives us a chance to take a closer look at one of the finest midfielders of the past decade: Esteban Cambiasso.

I am still in disbelief of the fact that Argentina were unable to win the World Cup in 2006. They had an incredible team and their 6-0 thumping of Serbia and Montenegro in the group stages contained one of the best team goals ever seen.

Cambiasso was the heartbeat of that team and the same is true of his role at Inter; the engine in the middle of the park dictating play with his smart footballing brain.

A midfielder of the highest class, Cambiasso is also the most decorated Argentine club player of all time with 23 official titles to his name, one more than the legendary Alfredo di Stefano.

After two seasons with Real Madrid Cambiasso was transferred to Inter and he has gone on to make over 250 appearances for the club.

Bale may take centre stage tonight, and rightfully so, but remember to keep your eye on Inter's midfield general if you want a lesson in how to control the middle of the park.
