Evidence of San Marino scoring (Video)

It was a surreal experience watching England's World Cup qualifier against San Marino last night.

On the one hand there were plenty of goals, some of them very good, but then they were all against a team that hardly put up any kind of resistance.

The case of San Marino is such a bewildering one because even before the game the manager stated that a 5-0 defeat would be considered as a victory. I believe that teams below a certain FIFA ranking should have their own tournament because then you won't get such embarrassing mismatches such as the one last night.

San Marino are dead last in the FIFA ranks, haven't scored a competitive goal since 2008 and the extent of their giant killing is a 1-0 victory over Lichenstein in 2004. Last night was their 58 successive loss. Ouch.

Anyway, in light of all those ridiculous stats how about a bit of positivity and a look at some of goals they have actually score. Nine of the best, in fact, and included is their nine second effort against England in the early 90s one of the quickest ever international goals scored. Well done Stuart Pearce for letting them have that moment of glory by having a momentary breakdown.
