    Is Steven Taylor’s dramatics necessary?

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is one of the clubs star performers on his day. He has an excellent tackling ratio and is one of the few Premier League players who plies his trade at his home town club.

There is a lot to admire about the Magpies centre back. His amateur dramatics is not on this list. Against Stoke at the weekend when Yohan Cabaye scored a stunning free kick, the “geordie hero” Taylor stole the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

His distracting of the goalkeeper and being an outright nuisance certainly did not will the ball into the back of the net, nor put off the keeper.

It made him look foolish. The aspect of the 27-year-old’s game that is prone to look for attention away from football is detracting from his positive displays, when fit.

Taylor may want to consider knuckling down rather than trying to pursue his career in acting on a football pitch.

He may think that saying comments such as “I would rather collect stamps rather than play for Sunderland” make him immune to abuse in the North East. It does not.

On set pieces he similarly likes to gee up the players and point and pester around whereas he should be looking at who he is marking.

The players he shares a pitch are professional footballers. Maybe he should bear this in mind too.

be grammar necessary for writing articles? me not know

RvN did this all the time at Manure, as long as he is on side when the kick is taken whats the problem.

I don't see any problems with Taylor, in fact it was very refreshing seeing that sort of passion from one of our players, and on a cold afternoon it was a bit of light entertainment for the fans too. Steven played fantastic all match, and if he rattled their keeper even just a little then i would say "A Job Well Done". It was a tough physical game, emotions were high, tempers lost, but Steve Taylor being the gentleman that he is, still found it in his heart to help the stoke keeper set up his wall

Steven Taylor has been guilty of pantomime acts for years, I agree with the article, as much as I support Newcastle he is a liability with his amateur dramatics, i think if he watched himself on TV he would be as embarrased as most fans are....

    What a pointless, stupip article.

Are his 'antics' as you call them leading to Newcastle suffering poor results, no, in fact we have greatly improved since his, and other players returning from injury and the new signings.

Steven Taylor loves playing for Newcastle, has been loyal when others havent, and I for one like watching Steven Taylor enjoying himself playing for the club he loves.

I think you have too much time on your hands - go and whine about something important!

Rubish article! Love the lad. One of our top performers This year And deserves nothing But praises for giving his absolute 100% In every match
