Torres Ruled Out Of Schalke Clash, But Will Chelsea Miss Him?

Due to a thigh injury Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been ruled out of Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Schalke. Bad news for Chelsea, yes, but for Torres himself it is even worse.

The Spanish international had a rocky start at Chelsea when he arrived in 2011 and saw nothing but criticism from journalists and fans alike when he wasn't delivering the same way he was while in his prime at Liverpool. Some say he'll never reach that sort of form again, and as much as I want him to prove all of those nay sayers wrong, sadly it may be the truth. Torres is 29 years old, and not only has his club form not been top notch, at times he's even not getting called up for Spain.

Recently though, he's been finding a bit of form at Chelsea, scoring two goals so far in the Champions League. But most importantly, he's been getting the first team play he so badly desires. Nothing was worse than seeing one of Chelsea's most expensive purchases waste his days away on the bench. This season, Torres has stepped it up, maybe because another highly anticipated transfer, Samuel Eto’o, hasn’t been the striker that Jose Mourinho was expecting.

Torres is taking his role as number one striker seriously. Who knows, maybe all it took was for someone to have just a little faith in him. We all know that Mourinho has his favorites, and if Torres is one of them, then more power to him! He can use this opportunity to hush all of those nay-sayers!

Personally as a Chelsea supporter, I was always a huge fan of Torres. I was ecstatic the day Roman Abramovich's helicopter landed in Liverpool to pick him up on the last day of the January transfer window in 2011, and I've been rooting for him ever since. I have nothing but respect for a guy that keeps on going no matter how many people tell him to give up. So cheers to one of my favorite players!
