Ronaldo vs Messi - A Statistical Look At Their Starts This Season

There are two players in football right now who will both go down as one of the best to ever play the beautiful game. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated our lives for the last five years and have been compared to one another a lot of the time - simply because no one else is in their league.

So let's take a look at the pair in more detail, starting from last season.

It seems incredible that Ronaldo's 34 goals in 34 goals, but the little Argentine did just that. Messi struck 46 in 32 La Liga games, and created a 45 chances on top on that - which falls shorts of Ronaldo's 62.

Fast forward to this season and it's Messi again that has the more goals - the 26-year-old has eight goals in six games, while Ronaldo has scored seven in eight, while they have both created 13 chances.

Ronaldo has won a bigger margin of his individual duels - 66% to Messi's 59% -  but is looking up at Messi in almost every other aspect.

His 84% pass completion is better than Ronaldo's 79%, while his 78% shot accuracy eclipses Ronaldo's 57%.

As the pair continue to light up our footballing world they will continue to be compared. However, there is one thing everyone will agree on, and that's the enjoyment they provide.
