Will Daniel Sturridge be a hit at Liverpool?

The prolonged departure of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea finally came to an end this week as he signed on the dotted line to join Brendan Rodgers and his Liverpool team. With a distinct lack of firepower in attack, the Reds have been in search for someone who will come in and ease the pressure from the ever-impressive Luis Suarez, but can Sturridge be that man?

With only 6 goals in 32 appearances for Manchester City he naturally has his critics, but at still only 23-years old and with bags of talent waiting to be unleashed, Brendan Rodgers may be gifted with a superstar for taking the risk to sign the England international.

Sturridge has been in a similar situation to that of Theo Walcott at Arsenal where he is adamant that he is most suited to a role as a striker but his manager deploys him on the wing, much to their frustrations, but unlike some stroppy players who refuse to do something they are not comfortable with Sturridge is happy to do what his gaffer wants in order to claim a place in the team.

He told reporters: "I'd never refuse to play in that position and I've never demanded to play up front, either.

"For me, whatever the manager wants me to do I will do it and work as hard as I can for the club and the fans."

I personally think Sturridge will thrive in a young team that play to his strengths. He is good with the ball at his feet, his movement creates space for himself and for his teammates alike and his 6ft2 frame will add some height into the Anfield attacking-line which could be used to flick the ball on to Luis Suarez.

Although the reported fee of £12m is a hefty one, I truly believe that he will be worth the outlay in the long-term for Liverpool.
