Is Kyle Walker nearing his best? (Video)

At the beginning of the season, Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker saw his form dip somewhat significantly. The young defender was one of the better players in the Premiership last season and rightfully deserved his PFA Young Player of the Year award.

However, under Andre Villas-Boas, it's fair to say the England international's performances sunk to lower standards. That was to be expected, what with a new head coach coming in to alter the system and implement his new ideas.

Nevertheless, after a poor start to the campaign, Walker is becoming to work his way back to his previous best. The marauding right-back has again showcased his capabilities, supporting Aaron Lennon when pushing forward and despite looking defensively suspect, he's still more the capable at holding his own in the Spurs defence.

Walker is again turning in performances that made him so highly revered last season, attacking teams from deep that have helped Spurs move up to third in the Premiership, at the time of writing. He needs to keep his standards up, however, especially with Kyle Naughton beginning to make his mark in the first team, coupled with the imminent return of Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

If he can keep up his form, then there will be no reason to worry about his place in the starting XI, but that's only if he can up his performances that have seen him winning the plaudits once again.

He had a half decent game the other day. Apart from that he has been pretty woeful. He has not been able to hit a 5 yard pass, gives away too many stupid free kicks in dangerous area, and not added anything up front apart from a body to be marked.
I'm not trying to persecute him as I feel there are enough doing that, but I just don't see how one half decent performance can mean he is back to his form of last year.
I think he started to believe his own hype and has now lost confidence with the grief he is getting from the stands.

Let's hope his form continues to improve as at the moment I favour Benni at LB and a move of Naughton to RB as he is much better defensively and even starting to pick out some good passes.

I coud not disagree with you more. I am not sure why he is played so much. He is a poor defender, poor passer and even if his strengths are going forward he can not cross and his shooting is abysmal. I would like to see Kyle Naughton given a chance at RB especiall as Ekotto is nearly ready to come back

I think this must be a joke item. he has been our worst player in virtually every game (apart from a few of the earlier dempsey performances).

He did improve second half of last season, but he is an athlete not a footballer - sol campbell, Rommedahl etc.

I think he should take up athletics.

He also seems to lack a sense of humour. why is he so angry all the time? I think he was told as a kid that if you want to get on you mustn't mess around, but he's taken it to extremes.

Still, the goal last season was a great memory .. a bit like Danny Rose?????
