The problem with the transfer window

The New Year is upon us. The clock ticked down to midnight on the 31st of December, signalling the beginning of 2013. With those setting out guidelines for the following 12 months, be it to use the gym or quit alcohol, January also signals the opening of the transfer window.

31 days of gossip fuelled news, circulating around a number of clubs who are going to sign this player or a superstar making a big money move. However, it also brings out the worst type of football related Twitter accounts – the 'in the knows'.

Yes, the people of whom suggest that one player is close to signing for a set club, only to see the deal fall through or not even have been mooted in the first place. Yes, it's these that claim a source close to the club have confirmed that any move is a dead cert.

Furthermore, when pulled up on their failings, a tirade of abuse is sent in the general direction of the Tweeter, more often than not leading to said user being blocked. While it's nice to hear snippets of gossip during the window, the fact that they make absurd suggestions, with numerous Twitter users believing the most ridiculous of rumours, renders them the transfer windows biggest trolls.
