Do Spurs need a number 10?

When Andre Villas-Boas took over the reins from Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur, many a journalist predicted doom and gloom for the North London club. There were those that compared Daniel Levy to the Venky's, while others suggested they would fail to finish in the top six as a result.

However, with 2013 now upon us, Spurs, at the time of writing, currently sit in third following the impressive 3-1 win over Reading. It's been a major upturn in form for the club, who stuttered somewhat in the absence of Mousa Dembele.

While Villas-Boas' side continue to win over the plaudits, the need for a creative influence behind the striker is evident. Since losing Rafael van der Vaart to Hamburg in the summer, the influx of goals and ingenuity from the midfield has been lacking.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey may've been brought into the fill the void, but neither have exactly set the world alight in the position. It's no surprise that Spurs have been linked with a host of players to play the role – Wesley Sneijder, Isco, Christian Eriksen, Willian and Lewis Holtby to name a few.

Spurs may be impressing at the moment, but still need that one player who really make them tick. Whether he arrive in January or over the summer, it's vital that he join, especially as the club go in pursuit of glory once again.
