AVB Spur-red On By Chelsea Mistakes

Andre Villas-Boas has Roman Abramovich to thank for pretty much all he has achieved so far at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese boss joined Spurs in the summer and has since led the side to a prized place in the Premier League’s Champions League places and qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League.

AVB was dismissed by Abramovich from his role at Chelsea after just 8 months in charge, during which he fell out with senior players, failed to implement his style on the side and left the club teetering on the edge of elimination from the Champions League as well as faltering in the race for the Premier League title.

Despite a troubled time at Stamford Bridge Villas-Boas admits the mistakes he made at Chelsea have taught him valuable lessons, "What we are doing nowadays at Tottenham with my staff is a reaction toward Chelsea, an echo to the mistakes we did".

"Everything we did there was not wrong, but we could have done better. It has not affected the way I am viewing football, but I admit I thought a lot about it."

Villas-Boas has learned to manage his squad much better in his time with Spurs, especially considering the squad have seen the departure of Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart in the summer, as well as managing out with long term absentee, and last season’s player of the year, Scott Parker.
