Not a nice day at the seaside for Rovers

    Blackpool 2-0 Blackburn Rovers

Henning Berg suffered yet another defeat, this time to local rivals Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, worrying times lay ahead for Rovers as Berg has only managed one win from nine games.

With Shebby Singh making public that the Rovers backroom staff may lose their jobs. This surely was not ideal preparations just before a big match in which Rovers needed points from. Colin Hendry had already been given the boot and demoted from first team coach to youth team coach, this does not look well for the rest of the coaching staff who could be shown the exit door very soon. Mr Singh was quick to state that Berg’s position is safe; surely when Berg came in he had a choice whether to bring his own staff or to stay with the old guard.

Four changes were made from last Friday's defeat at the hands of Cardiff City. Jake Kean and Simon Vukcevic were brought in, whilst Gael Givet and Colin Kazim-Richards all stepped into the starting eleven. That saw Paul Robinson and Grant Hanley drop to the bench; illness forced Markus Olsson out, whilst injuries to Mauro Formica, Nuno Gomes, Danny Murphy and Fabio Nunes all saw them miss this match.

Rovers started the game brightly. Jordan Rhodes having a good chance to take the lead but was denied by Matt Gilks in the Blackpool goal. Serbian Vukcevic making his first league start of the campaign, struck the foot of the post with his effort, after showing great skill with a shot on the turn.

After a first half in which Rovers dominated without reward, they found themselves a goal down, Wes Thomas heading home Nathan Delfouneso's cross from the left.

In the build-up to this goal, Rovers defence seem to back off, the ball then went out to the left, again Rovers did not close down quickly, and Delfouneso had time to cross.

That seemed to be Rovers down fall in this match poor defending yet again costing Berg’s men the points once more.  The final nail of the afternoon was hammered in to the Rovers coffin. On 81 minutes, Kirk Broadfoot lost his marker (Gael Givet) and headed in from 5 yards.

Rovers tried in vain for the reminder of the match to salvage something but an in form Gilks denied Josh King, while Givet trying to make amends for his poor marking for Blackpool’s second goal, had his goal ruled out for offside.

Rovers need to turn things around quickly if they are to push for promotion. At the moment I would say that promotion is not going to happen this season.

How long will it be before Shebby Singh and Venkys dream up another ludicrous decision and make the football world laugh at us once more. Going public and stating that the backroom staff could lose their jobs is not installing confidence in the club, players and fans. Surely at the start of Henning’s reign he had the option to bring in his own staff, when will this circus performance end, not for some time yet it seems.

Henning needs to be given time to get his ideas and work ethic across. With the squad Rovers have we should be up there in the table. One thing is for sure that Henning needs to strengthen his back four, and midfield, but will he be given the money to shore up the defence and stop leaking goals, we shall see!

If Venkys do decide they have had enough of Henning anytime soon, can the next manager have a full head of hair?!
