Chelsea turn French after German failure

Chelsea will attempt to sign Marseille forward Loic Remy after a £17 million move for Bayer Leverkusen attacker Andre Schurrle failed earlier in the day.

Roman Abramovich had granted Roberto Di Matteo some extra funds for a final dip into the transfer market with a striker a priority, and it looks like Frenchman Remy is now the target after being knocked back in the race for Schurrle.

Remy had been the subject of interest from Manchester City and Spurs during this window, but Marseille are adamant the 25 year old won't leave the Velodrome for less than £15 million.

However, Chelsea believe they can get their man for £10 million and will attempt to rush a deal through before the 11pm transfer deadline.
