Walsall face fight to keep goal ace

Walsall are beginning to fear for the future of top scorer Will Grigg, as it emerged that the Northern Ireland striker has attracted interest from an array of clubs.  reported that scouts from a number of Premier League and Championship outfits have been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old striker.

Additionally, Grigg is out of contract at the end of the season so any move would leave the Midlands outfit with the possibility of obtaining only a meagre compensation package.

Grigg has been in marvellous form this season, contributing 18 goals across all competitions. The forward’s goals have been an instrumental factor behind the club’s unforeseen promotion push, as the Saddler’s sit on the cusp of the play offs in 8th place. Within this fine vein of form, the youngster recently scored his first professional hat trick in a 3-0 away win at Carlisle.

Although the player’s agent has insisted the player is happy plying his trade at The Bescot, it would be of no surprise if Grigg moves to pastures new over the summer months. With talk of sustained interest from both goal shy Sunderland and Norwich, it is hard to envisage the Solihull born goal getter prolonging his stay beyond the end of this season.

If a proposed move does develop, Grigg will be hoping to emulate strikers such as Rickie Lambert, Adam Le Fondre and Jordan Rhodes in proving that natural goalscorers are able to adapt effectively in more prosperous surroundings.
