Secret meetings held over star striker?

This rumour seems to blow hot and cold, and this time, it's blowing hot.
Chelsea have reportedly held secret meetings (so very secret that we all now know about them) over the future of Atletico Madrid's star striker - Radamel Falcao. The Blues have offered to pay £5 million more than any other potential suitors in order to get their man. A dangerous move, as rival clubs could express interest simply to push his price up, but Abramovich certainly has deep enough pockets to try it.
The Russian money-man is a huge admirer of the Colombian striker's talents, and this move is exactly the kind of big-name, big-money, big-news (are you seeing a pattern emerge here?) transfer that the Chelsea owner loves so much. The player is needed too, unlike some recent signings, like the acquisitions of about a million attacking midfielders/wingers at once.
Somehow, though, I don't see Falcao picking Chelsea as his destination of choice. Despite being the current Champions League title holders, and having a very strong side on paper, I can't see Falcao opting for such a publicised big-money swap to the Premier League if he can help it. Chelsea fans will hope that the deadly hitman dons the blue shirt of their club next season though, as a player of his quality will no doubt succeed on the pitch wherever he goes.
