      Pescara set to sign Kroldrup

Without a club since leaving Fiorentina at the end of last season, Per Kroldrup may be about to return to Serie A.

The Danish defender spent six-and-a-half years in Florence, making 118 league appearances for the club and also competing in both the Champions League and the UEFA Cup.  He first moved to Italy from his homeland in 2001 when he joined Udinese, where his impressive performances saw attract interest from across Europe.  A chance to play in the Premier League came when Everton paid £5 million for his services, but Kroldrup played only one match for the Toffees and ultimately failed to adapt to the pace and physicality of the English game.

A Denmark international, it would be foolish to question Kroldrup’s quality just based on his struggle at Goodison Park.  Currently with 33 caps to his name, he travelled to Portugal as part of his country’s Euro 2004 squad and also appeared at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Now, according to Sky Sports, Pescara are set to sign 33-year-old on a deal until the summer with an option of a further year.  The club only gained promotion to the Italian top flight last campaign and their final game of the season was not too dissimilar to that of Manchester City’s, with a dramatic late winner seeing them clinch the Serie B title.

Struggling to avoid immediate relegation back to where they came from, can Kroldrup help Pescara’s bid to stay up?
