    Goalkeeper wants Royals exit

After moving to England almost exactly six years ago as an 18-year-old, Mikkel Andersen has expressed his desire to leave Reading.

According to Sky Sports, the Danish goalkeeper feels that he must now be playing regular first-team football, something which he has so far been denied at the Madejski Stadium.  Andersen initially had to rely on brief loan spells with the likes of Torquay, Rushden & Diamonds, Brentford and Brighton, before featuring more prominently for both Bristol Rovers and Portsmouth in the last few seasons.

Now 24-years-of-age, the goalkeeper claims clubs from his homeland have shown an interest in taking him on a permanent deal, as well as Turkish side Trabzonspor.  However, Reading, where he is contracted until 2015, do not want to let him go this season.

Having previously played for Denmark at under-21 level, Andersen’s international career cannot have been helped by his lack of playing time.  The Royals were a top flight team when he joined in January 2007 but were relegated that same year, not competing in the first division again until the current campaign.  Despite having a much better chance of being noticed as a backup goalkeeper in the prestigious Premier League than in the Championship, Reading have a fight on their hands to ensure they do not face the drop yet again.

Spending six years at a club and not playing a single game for them must knock a player’s confidence, so perhaps Andersen is right to want a move away.
