Is Walcott finally ready to extend his contract?

It finally seems as though after all this time Theo Walcott is poised to ‘sign da ting’. His contract extension for Arsenal that is. Hurrah.

According to the Evening Standard Walcott has agreed the framework of a three and a half year deal which Arsenal are expecting him to sign next week.

Perhaps we are counting our speedy England international's chickens too soon though. The paper also report that the contract is now in the hands of lawyers and is yet to be finalised.

If the deal does go ahead it is thought that Walcott could earn as much as £100,000 a week as well as performance related bonuses.

The big news though is that there is no clause in the deal which states that Walcott will be deployed in his favoured central role. This seems like a sensible step from Arsenal as, apart from his hat-trick against Newcastle, the 23-year-old has hardly sparkled when played up front and a contract clause entitling him to such a position would be another example of the Gunners bowing to player power.

Hopefully now Walcott can go ahead and sing the deal with his £100,000 a week easing the blow of not being able to choose exactly where he plays all the time. That’s the manager’s job Theo.
