Spurs ambition convinced Sigurdsson’s Liverpool snub

Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed that he rejected Liverpool over the summer in favour of Tottenham Hotspur due to the ambition of the North London side, he has told talkSPORT. Spurs managed to secure the signing of the Iceland international over the summer, despite interest from the Reds.

Sigurdsson had been touted as the Merseysiders first signing of the transfer window following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers, who signed the midfielder on-loan while at Swansea City.

The goal-getting 23-year-old had been expected to sign for the Swans after the South Wales side agreed a fee with Hoffenheim for his signature. However, Spurs agreed an £8m fee for Sigurdsson, who admits that the aspirations of the club is what convinced him to sign at White Hart Lane.
