New contender in race for Spanish striker

In a move eerily reminiscent of around 18 months ago, Liverpool have been linked with a big money move for a striker.

More strangely, the subject of that move 18 months ago is the keen piece in the puzzle for this new transfer to happen.

Anyway, enough mystery and bait-laying, here is the rumour.

The Sun reports that the Anfield club want to bring in Athletic Bilbao powerhouse striker Fernando Llorente if they can shift out Andy Carroll on a permanent deal by the end of the transfer window.

The Spanish striker has one year left on his deal at San Mames but has been frozen out by Bilbao after his refusal to sign a new deal and has been forced to train with the club's reserves.

Manchester City, Spurs and Juventus have all been linked with the striker in recent months and now Liverpool have thrown their hat into the ring in the fight to sign the 27-year-old who has a £30million get-out clause in his contract.

Llorente is thought to be keen on joining Juventus to avoid six months languishing at a club where he is no longer wanted which makes him very much like Andy Carroll himself come to think of it.
