Mancini gets one, now for some more?

News of Manchester City agreeing a deal for Everton's Jack Rodwell this Sunday lunchtime was a bit of a reasonable surprise, rather like finding a fiver from behind the sofa, or opening the lid on your work lunch-box to find corned-beef sandwiches, nobody expected it but it was good all the same.

21 year old Rodwell, who has come from the youth team to spend five professional years at Everton, is probably not ready for top level football, a view shared by Mancini who has warned him, not long after joining, that he must settle for an initial bench-warming role.

Coming soon after Mancini lost a bit of his rag with City's Sporting Director Brian Marwood for not being particularly enthusiastic about going on a shopping spree, Rodwell becomes the Champions' first summer signing for a fee believed to be valued at £15 million by the Guardian.

In a busy day for the Etihad club in which they also won the Community shield with victory over Chelsea, Mancini promised more busy days at the office as he promised Rodwell's capture will be the opening of the Middle-East funded floodgates.

Mancini, speaking after the game, admitted he was concerned that his side had not reeled anybody in with just one week to go, but said he was looking at more players but if you wanted to know who they were, he told reporters, rather cheekily, to go and ask his growing enemy Brian Marwood.
