Berb to return to London?

In football terms, not a lot is in the centre of the Venn diagram between Andy Carroll and Dimitar Berbatov aside from them both being 6ft plus and rather derided by fans of their respective clubs.
Another item can be added to that list today as, in the wake of West Ham being linked with the Geordie striker last week, the Hammers have today been linked with the Bulgarian forward who, if for nothing else, should be hailed for being one of the few remaining top footballers who enjoys a cheeky cigarette.
Back to the point, a story in the Daily Mirror today states that West Ham are set to make an audacious bid for the United player, perhaps it will be audacious as it involves Sam Allardyce climbing into Sir Alex's office through the window to express his interest in the player. That is just idle speculation mind.
The 31-year-old Bulgarian has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford as his first team opportunities have become increasingly rare, particularly last season.
United took up an option to extend his contract for an extra year earlier in the summer but it is believed that was to be able to sell him for a fee. The club are hoping for £5million for him though West Ham would prefer a loan deal at this stage.
Where Berbatov would fit in with the 3,412 strikers currently at Upton Park is another question.
