      Baines showcases alternative career

Leighton Baines has revealed that he is currently doubling up as an accountant at Everton as well as being their left-back if a story in the Sunday Mirror is to be believed.

The story states that Baines has admitted that the club's financial situation may mean he has to be sold to ease the burden at Goodison Park, Naturally, everyone is aware of the situation at Everton so Baines would not need to be the club's accountant to make a judgement like that (unless he really was a left-back/accountant to cut costs at the club) but then that introduction would not have been relevant so you the writer really benefits here.

Manchester United have targeted the player as a replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra and initially thought they could take advantage of the situation at Everton by tabling a £5m offer for him.

Everton rate the 27-year-old at closer to £15m so would not accept an offer like that but United, according to the paper, are preparing a £12m bid for the player to test Everton's resolve.

Baines said: “I’m aware of what’s been said about United, but I don’t know much beyond that. It can be a problem for Everton given the financial situation at the club. Over the years the manager has lost players I am sure he would have liked to have kept hold of. Maybe the club has needed the money or maybe they have received a substantial bid for a player.”
