Newcastle bank on more cut-price imports

One of the best stories last season came from the French revolution at Newcastle which catapulted them up the table to finish in the top six.
The impact of players such as Demba Ba, Yohann Cabaye, Cheik Tiote and so on was fantastic to watch and resulted in Newcastle scout Graham Carr (comedian Alan’s dad which added another unusual twist to the story) being rewarded with an 8-year contract.
And this summer, it already looks as if the Geordie club are going to try and follow the same route of relatively cut price imports from the continent to refresh and improve their playing squad.
The Daily Mail reports today that Carr is keeping an eye on one of the stars of Euro 2012 so far in the form of French right-back Mathieu Debuchy and Carr will watch him again this weekend in the Euro 2012 quarter final between France and Spain.
Lille have already rejected a £4m offer for the full back from an unnamed club but with Chelsea and Inter Milan already sniffing around the defender, it is expected he will leave Lille this summer.
Meanwhile, the paper also reports that Newcastle are set to sign FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong for a fee of around £9.5m but negotiations are ongoing.
de Jong has enjoyed a break out season in the Eredivise, notching 32 goals in 50 games for the club in all competitions, resulting in him being linked with clubs across Europe’s top divisions.
