A boost for Arsenal regards RVP

Probably the biggest scoop in the world of football gossip right now would be some concrete information on the future of Robin Van Persie and where he wants to be, come August. However, since only the player knows that and he sure as ain’t saying nothing (to use the parlance) so we’ll make do with some conjecture.

The Daily Express reports today that Arsenal’s hopes of keeping hold of their most prized asset (even more prized than that bust of Herbert Chapman which they might not have anymore. Was it only a Highbury thing?) were given a boost today by Manchester City’s valuation of the player.

City, posing as David Dickinson, have valued the Dutch striker at £20million due to his age (29), the number of years left on his contract (1) and how much his wage will be (lots of ££££).Further concerns include the risk of burnout given his past injury record, the fact that this is the only the third time in eight seasons he’s played more than 34 games for Arsenal and the European Championships this summer, all of which sounds very fair.

However, this valuation is far below what the Gunners would consider selling the player for and the club are thought to be willing to allow him to see out his contract and leave on a free next season instead should a bid of £30m+ not be submitted, a situation Van Persie himself is reportedly happy to enter in to.

It will be an interesting (read tedious) summer for Arsenal and Van Persie as other stories in a similar nature to this one come out steadily like a dripping tap.
