Lambert in Villa talks

Now to the Aston Villa managerial merry-go-round, after the dismissal of Alex McLeish this month, the Villains are said to be holding talks with his fellow Scot, Norwich manager, Paul Lambert.

Lambert has emerged as the leading contender and the Birmingham outfit look set to make an official approach for the man who guided the Canaries from League 1 to the Premier League in 2 seasons.

It has been reported that the highly rated manager, who won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund in his playing days, had a row with the East Anglian clubs board on Wednesday night and that could speed up his departure according to Team Talk.

The 42 year old led the Carrow Road outfit to a solidly respectable 12th place in the Premier League, a showing that has seen him reap plaudits from football pundits.

The media had installed Ole Solksjaer and Roberto Martinez as candidates for the Villa Park hotseat, but the pair now look set to remain at Molde and the Wigan respectively.

Randy Lerner, the Villa chairman, had said he was looking to appoint a: 'new manager who sees the club's potential and embraces our collective expectations.'

Lambert could be that man, despite Norwich previously claiming they would 'fight' to keep the former Celtic midfielder.
