      New Liverpool boss: coming soon

Liverpool have narrowed down their options in their bid to find a new manager, after the sacking of Kenny Dalglish.

Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez, was the favourite to land the Anfield post, only for Swansea's Brendan Rodgers to overtake him during last night according to Team Talk.

The pair have been in the bookmakers thoughts ever since Dalglish left the Reds, and an announcement could be made at the weekend.

Both the Spaniard and an the Northern Irishman have returned to Britain after flying across the Atlantic, with Martinez taking time out of a holiday to meet Liverpool owner, John Henry, in Miami.

Rodgers is believed to have met Swansea chairman yesterday afternoon, but the club insist that it was pre arranged.

The former Reading boss turned down the chance to speak to the North West outfit two weeks ago, and Swansea insist that there hasn't been a second approach.

The South Wales outfit have dismissed any Liverpool interest in their manager as 'speculation' and issued a statement explaining that their stance hasn't changed.

It read: 'We would like to clarify the speculation in the press surrounding our manager Brendan Rodgers.

'We would like to confirm that there has been no contact from Liverpool and nothing has changed since our previous statement on the issue.'

Meanwhile, Roberto Martinez has been given a deadline of Thursday to decide on his future by Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan.
