    J-Rod's too hot for some

Eyes down for transfer-window phrase bingo with this story from the Daily Mirror about the future of Burnley and England U-21 international striker Jay Rodriguez.

Right, we have “bidding war”, “priced out”, “hovering” “at the centre of” and “[X international team] star” in addition to a distinct lack of quotes to back up the gossip; excellent, excellent.

Anyway, moving on from this ‘shooting-fish-in-a-barrel’ criticism of football media and onto the actual rumour itself, hopefully without using too many transfer clichés as to set off the irony alarm.

The Mirror story reports that the 22-year-old Rodriguez, rated at £8m by Burnley apparently, is the object of affection of various suitors including Newcastle, Southampton and Cardiff whilst the price tag has put off other clubs in the form of Fulham and Norwich.

The story continues that Cardiff, rather than being put off by the £8m valuation, have decided to make an offer around two thirds of that (£5.5m in other words) and then see what see happens.

An educated guess is that he will not end at the Welsh outfit for two reasons; firstly, the transfer fee offered and secondly the fact that, if Newcastle and Southampton are indeed suitors for Rodriguez, the offer of Premier League and indeed European football might be more tempting than another shot at promotion in Cardiff’s possibly cursed attempt to get out of the Championship. This is the part where a Tweet would have “#justsaying” but thankfully this isn’t a Tweet so…yeah…this story has finished now…you can go now.
