Cole not on Allardyce's shopping list

Due to the widely-believed fact (deliberate oxymoron y’all) that well-known English players cannot play abroad for an extended period of time, expect lots of talk this Summer about the future of plastic Frenchman Joe Cole.

Cole, who was on loan at French side Lille from Liverpool for the duration of last season, has been linked with a return to Anfield to complete some unspecified “unfinished business” (a tax return perhaps) or a move to boyhood club West Ham.

However, the latter of those moves looks unlikely to happen now with West Ham co-owner David Gold urinating on that particular parade in the Daily Mail today.

Gold insisted that the 30-year-old Cole is not on Sam Allardyce’s shopping list this Summer (no fat jokes please, we’re above that) and that despite Cole not being on his way to Upton Park, there will be a number of players coming in to make West Ham’s Premier League return a successful one.

Gold said; “It's going to be a busy summer. Joe Cole moving to West Ham would be a fantastic and romantic thing to happen but I would be very, very surprised. He didn't come up on Sam Allardyce's list of players he wants to sign a couple of months ago. Whether that's still the case, only time will tell.”

Cole, who made more than 150 appearances for West Ham before joining Chelsea for £6.6m in August 2003, has enjoyed a successful stint in Ligue Un to reboot his career after a disappointing initial spell at Liverpool.
